My 7 Favorite Summertime Activities in Dallas-Fort Worth

June 20, 2025

There’s nothing quite like summer in Dallas-Fort Worth. Yeah, it gets hot—but that just means there are even more reasons to get out, cool off, and soak up everything the area has to offer. Whether I’m looking for a fun weekend activity, a last-minute escape from the heat, or something new to try with friends or family, DFW never disappoints. Here are a few of my favorite go-to summertime activities:

1. Cooling Off at Water Parks

When the Texas  is relentless, I head straight to one of our local water parks. Hurricane Harbor in Arlington is a classic, but Epic Waters in Grand Prairie is perfect when I want something indoors (and air-conditioned!). Bahama Beach in Dallas is also a fun, budget-friendly option if I just need a few hours to splash around.

2. Floating the Trinity River

I’ve done the Hill Country river floats, but lately I’ve been loving the low-key vibe of floating or kayaking on the Trinity River. It's super accessible, and companies like Trinity River Kayak Co. make it really easy to plan a half-day float close to home.

3. Strolling Through the Dallas Arboretum

Mornings at the Dallas Arboretum are my favorite. It’s peaceful, beautiful, and there's something grounding about being surrounded by flowers and shaded walkways. Sometimes I bring a book or catch an evening concert there with friends.

4. Catching a Rangers Game or Live Show

There’s nothing like the energy of a live Texas Rangers game at Globe Life Field—especially when they win! When I’m in the mood for music, I’ll check out what’s happening at Dos Equis Pavilion or Toyota Music Factory. There’s always a good concert happening in the summer.

5. Escaping the Heat at a Museum

On the hottest days, museums are a lifesaver. The Perot Museum is one of my favorites—interactive, cool (literally and figuratively), and surprisingly fun even as an adult. The Dallas Museum of Art is another spot I love when I want something more low-key and inspiring.

6. Day Trips to the Lake

When I need a break from the city, the lake is a perfect mini-escape. I’ll rent a paddleboard or just hang out on the shore with a good playlist.

7. Rooftop Drinks and Patio Nights

Summer evenings in DFW are made for rooftop dining. HG Sply Co., The Statler’s Waterproof, or Reata in Fort Worth are my top picks when I want to wind down with great food, a cocktail, and a killer view. It’s such a good way to end a busy day.

Every summer, I remind myself how lucky I am to live in a place with so many things to do—even when the temps hit triple digits. Whether you’re a local or just visiting, there’s no shortage of ways to make the most of a Texas summer in DFW.
